UVU Tames Cougars

Sacramento, Calif. (March 7, 2008)-- Utah Valley University southpaw Dan Christensen handcuffed BYU en route to a 4-1 victory Friday at the River City Classic.

Christensen, a 6-5 senior from South Dakota, threw a complete game for a victory over BYU after losing twice to the Cougars last season. It was Christensen's first win this season and improved the Wolverines' record to 2-8-1, while BYU fell to 5-7.

BYU scored its lone run in the seventh when Kent Walton led off with a double and was singled in two batters later by Bryce Ayoso.

UVU took a 4-0 lead after scoring one run in the fifth and three in the sixth.

BYU has a 1-2 record in the River City Classic where it plays a final game on Saturday at co-host UC Davis at 10 a.m.

It was the third time in the schools' history that Utah Valley has beaten BYU in 13 contests, the other times being in 2006 and 2005 at Orem. The two teams play again on Tuesday at 6 p.m., in BYU's home opener at Miller Park.
