Key SDSU Series

A five-game winning streak follows BYU's baseball team into this week's three-game series at San Diego State.

BYU, 12-14 overall and 5-4 in the Mountain West Conference, jockeys to move up in the standings by playing at San Diego State, 13-18 and a game ahead of the fourth-place Cougars at 6-3. League co-leaders New Mexico and UNLV battle this weekend at Las Vegas.

"We want to maintain the momentum we gathered last week as we challenge San Diego State, one of the traditional powers in the league," said BYU Coach Vance Law, whose team pieced together its longest win streak of the season.

One of the reasons BYU was hot last week was the play of Jake Stubblefield, named Monday as the MWC Player of the Week. Stubblefield

had all three of the game-winning RBI in BYU's sweep over the University of Utah.

The Cougars also had great pitching from hurlers like Michel Bergeron, who picked up two of BYU's five wins last week. While Bergeron has not returned to the starting rotation, BYU's probables at SDSU are Jeff Mousser (3-2, 5.25) in Thursday's game at 6 p.m., PST; Paul Jacinto (3-4, 4.12) in Friday's game at 6 p.m.; and Ken Gravley (2-1, 5.82) in Saturday's game at 1 p.m.

The games will be broadcast live locally over KOVO Radio 960 AM and carried over the Internet through links at www.byucougars.com.
