Cougars Sign Two Baseball Players from the Islands
Two Iolani High School baseball players have signed letters of intent with Brigham Young University.
Third baseman Kainoa Obrey and centerfielder Douglas Jackson will play for the Cougars next season. Both players were all-league and all-state.
Obrey, 6-2, 200, from Honolulu was the state's player of the year in 1998 when Iolani won the state championship with a 25-7 record. Jackson, 5-9, 160, batted .380, hit four homers and had eight doubles this season when Iolani placed fifth.
Jackson was recruited by Nebraska, Kansas State, San Francisco and Hawai`i, while Obrey was recruited by Hawai`i, USF, New Mexico, and California. Obrey hit eight homers and had 38 RBI last season.
