King Named McLeodUSA Mountain West Player of Week
Colorado Springs, Colo. (April 24, 2000)--BYU's Seth King and UNLV's Ryan Olson are the McLeodUSA Mountain West Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. King led the Cougars to two victories in a three-game set at Air Force, while Olson's complete-game effort helped UNLV defeat Utah 4-2 in the series opener.
King, a junior shortstop from Orem, Utah (Utah Valley State College), hit .571 (8-for-14) for the Cougars as BYU took two of three games against host
Air Force. King drove in a total of 11 RBI, scored three runs, had three doubles and two home runs. In the series-opening 8-6 victory, he went 1-for-4 with a RBI-double in the fifth inning to give BYU a 5-3 lead. In the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, King went 5-for-5 with a double, a
three-run home run and six RBI as the Cougars beat the Falcons 14-2. He completed his day with a 2-for-5 performance including a two-run home run
and four RBI. Air Force defeated BYU 15-14 in the second game of the doubleheader. BYU improved its record to 24-21 overall and 12-9 in league play.
