Arizona Evens Series

TUCSON -- Junior Shelley Duncan and freshman Matt Anderson helped Arizona even the series with BYU Friday in a 15-7 defeat of the Cougars.

Duncan, who stands 6-5, had a three-run homer for Arizona in the seventh, driving Salt Lake City freshman reliever Scott Koffman off the mound. His third-inning one-run double paced the Wildcats' initial four-runs.

Anderson's one-out double in the fourth started another four-run rally when the U of A chased Cougar starter James Ray from the game.

BYU rebounded from an 8-0 deficit in the fifth when pinch-runner Steve Snow scored off Cameron Coughlan's triple. Coughlan scored on Tim Law's grounder. Seth King's one-out single set him up to score when designated hitter Michael Davies grounded out.

In the sixth inning BYU picked up two more runs when Doug Jackson hit a lead-off single to right field, followed by Coughlan doubling down the right field line. Jackson scored on a wild pitch and Coughlan scored off King's fielder's choice.

Davies hit a two-run homer in the seventh, driving in Kainoa Obrey, who had a lead-off walk.

Arizona evened its record to 3-3 and hosts the Cougars, now 1-1, again on Saturday afternoon to end the series.
