Cougars Get Series Advantage at Fresno State
FRESNO -- A 7-4 victory Friday night over Fresno State helped BYU's baseball team realize another goal, that of winning a series.
Transfer Ryan Adams got the win in his first start of the season, while fellow junior James Ray picked up his first save on the mound. Ray, a southpaw, allowed only one hit in his two innings.
The Cougars got home runs from Cameron Coughlan and Matt Carson. Carson's solo homer was the game-winning RBI to start the scoring in the three-run eighth inning. Other big bats for BYU were Coughlan and Tyler Perry each with a pair of hits and two RBI. Carson also had two hits.
BYU scored its first run in the third when Perry scored off Tim Law's fielder's choice. Kainoa Obrey doubled in Carson in the sixth. Coughlan hit his two-run dinger in the seventh. Perry hit a two-run, two-out double in the eighth.
BYU improved its record to 3-1, while the Bulldogs are now 1-4. FSU hosts the Cougars again on Saturday afternoon.
