Tigers Claim Second Comeback

STOCKTON -- A triple and a homer gave BYU a 3-0 lead after two innings Friday, then the University of Pacific rallied to claim an 8-4 victory.

Matt Carson's first-inning triple helped BYU gain a 2-0 advantage. Teammate Mike Weingarten hit a solo homer in the second.

Pacific scored two runs in the second off a pair of doubles by James Stanford and Joel Summers and a triple by Tim Gilhooly. The Tigers took the lead in the fifth when Stanford homered to left field, making the score 4-3.

BYU scored its final run in the eighth when Cameron Coughlan led off with a single to center field, stole second base, advance to third on Carson's ground out and scored on Rob Itri's ground out to first.

Stanford put the game away with a bases loaded double, knocking in three runs in the eighth.

Jake Chrisman was tagged with the loss after his second start of the season. He was relieved in the fifth by Paul Jacinto who struck out five in three innings.

The Cougars fell to 2-10, while Pacific jumped to 3-2. The two teams play a final game on Saturday afternoon.
