SAN MATEO, Calif. — For the second time during the 2023 baseball season, BYU third baseman Austin Deming has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week.

Deming, a senior from Santa Clara, Utah, put up big numbers in the Cougars' final weekend series with Pepperdine. Over three games, the NCBWA Dick Howser Award semifinalist hit .583 (7-for-12), with three walks. He had 4 home runs, 2 doubles, 11 RBI and scored 7 runs for a total of 21 bases and a 1.750 slugging percentage.

His season batting average of .418, along with 19 home runs and 68 RBI, also locked up the 2023 WCC triple crown.

In addition to leading the conference in average, home runs and RBI, Deming led the WCC in slugging (.915), total bases (151), hits per game (1.68), RBI per game (1.66), home runs per game (.46) and doubles per game (.56).

Deming also currently leads the nation in doubles per game, is second in slugging, fourth in RBI per game, sixth in HR per game, ninth in average (.418) and doubles (23), and 10th in hits per game (1.68).

The WCC Player of the Week Award is the third of Deming’s BYU career. He also earned the honor on April 24 this season and last year on May 9 as a junior, on his way to being selected First Team All-WCC by the league’s coaches.

Deming joins teammate Cole Gambill (April 17), as one of two Cougars to receive the WCC weekly honor during the 2023 season.

BYU finished the 2023 season with an overall record of 24-28, including 13-14 in WCC play and 14-8 at Miller Park.
