Cougars fall to UC San Diego, 3-0
LA JOLLA, Calif. — BYU baseball dropped a midweek game, 3-0, to UC San Diego at Triton Stadium in La Jolla on Tuesday night. With the victory, UCSD improves to 26-16 on the year, while BYU falls to 18-24.

After two scoreless innings to begin the game, UC San Diego took an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the third inning on two walks, a hit batter, an error and a single by Triton first baseman Doyle Kane.
BYU had threatened in the top half of the inning with Jacob Wilk on third and Easton Jones on second, but Triton relief pitcher Joe Soberon struck the next two batters to end the inning.
UCSD picked up another run in the fifth inning on a solo home run by right fielder Michael Fuhrman for what would end up being the final score of 3-0.
Starting pitcher Chris Gilmartin (1-0) got the win for UCSD, while reliever Carter Foss (0-1) took the loss for BYU.
The Cougars now resume conference play with a three-game series versus San Diego, May 4-6, at Fowler Park.
