Washington State defeats BYU in Pullman

PULLMAN, Wash. — BYU baseball dropped a midday game, 6-1, to Washington State at Bailey-Brayton Field in Pullman on Monday.

With the victory, WSU improves to 18-9 while BYU falls to 9-18 on the year. The Cougars now return to Provo to host San Francisco in a three-game West Coast Conference series, April 6-8, at Miller Park.

Washington State scored first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a two-out walk and back-to-back doubles for a 2-0 lead. 

BYU responded with a run in the top of the second inning to cut the lead to 2-1. With two outs and Jacob Wilk on first base, Easton Jones doubled to right field to drive in Wilk.

WSU scored three more runs in the bottom half of the second inning on a hit by pitch, two hits and wild pitch to take a comfortable 5-1 advantage. 

After four scoreless innings, back-to-back doubles by WSU in the bottom of the seventh gave the Cougars an insurance run and closed out the scoring at 6-1.
