DALLAS — BYU closer Reid McLaughlin has been named to the midseason watch list for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award.

Presented by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association since 2005, the Stopper of the Year Award honors the nation's top relief pitcher.

McLaughlin, a junior from Scottsdale, Arizona, is one of 62 NCAA D1 relief pitchers selected to the midseason watch list. The righthander has appeared in 18 games for the Cougars in 2022, compiling seven saves and 20 strikeouts over 18.2 innings.

On March 10, against No. 6 ranked Oklahoma State, McLaughlin picked up the 16th save of his career, making him the all-time save leader at BYU. In doing so he passed Mason Marshall (2012-17) and Ryan Hancock (1881-93) who both had 15.

Each year, the NCBWA announces the preseason Stopper of the Year watch list and then updates the list at midseason. Prior to the NCAA baseball regionals, the association will announce up to five finalists for the award with the winner being named on June 17 at the 2022 College World Series.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA presents the Dick Howser Trophy to the nation's best player and the Mike Martin National Coach of the Year to the nation's top coach. The NCBWA also selects a D1 All-America team, district players of the year and stopper of the year.
