Keisel named WCC Pitcher of the Week
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – BYU freshman Janzen Keisel was named the West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week for his role in leading the Cougars to a 3-2 win over Marshall on Saturday.
Keisel surrendered just one hit and no runs over six innings to record his first collegiate victory in his BYU debut. The 6-4 righthander from Gunnison, Utah, struck out 10 and walked just one of the 21 batters he faced.
Keisel arrived at BYU in the fall of 2021 as the No. 1-ranked prospect in the state of Utah by Prep Baseball Report. He was a two-time first-team All-State selection, who also lettered in football, cross country and basketball in high school.
BYU wrapped up the Snowbird Classic on Monday with a 9-6 win over Ohio State to finish 2-2 in the tournament at Centennial Park in Port Charlotte, Florida. The Cougars will travel to Tempe, Arizona, later this week to take on ASU in a three-game series at Phoenix Municipal Stadium starting on Thursday.
