Cougars Picked Second in WCC Preseason Baseball Poll
SAN MATEO, Calif. — Gonzaga received nine first-place votes and BYU picked up one to earn the top two spots in the 2022 West Coast Conference Preseason Baseball Poll announced Wednesday.
The defending WCC champion Bulldogs tallied 81 points in the annual preseason poll, followed by the Cougars with 69. San Diego (63), San Francisco (54) and Pepperdine (48) rounded out the top five. The next five in order included Portland (42), LMU (34), Saint Mary’s (31), Santa Clara (16) and Pacific (12), as selected by a vote of the WCC’s 10 head coaches.
Gonzaga and BYU were also selected to finish one-and-two in the D1baseball.com WCC Preseason Poll, with San Diego, San Francisco and Portland rounding out the top five.
The Cougars are set to open the 2022 season at the Snowbird Classic, Feb. 18-21, in Port Charlotte, Florida. The Cougars will take on Indiana State Friday, Feb. 18 (12:30 p.m. EST), followed by a double header against Marshall on Saturday, Feb. 19 (3:30 and 6:00 p.m. EST), with the final game versus Ohio State on Monday, Feb. 21 (12:30 p.m. EST).
