PROVO, Utah — BYU baseball lost game two of its three-game series with San Francisco in extra innings on Friday evening, falling 10-6 in the tenth at Miller Park.

“We got the three run lead and I thought we sat on it a little bit,” said BYU head coach Mike Littlewood. “We kind of let them chip away at it. It almost felt like the reverse of last night when we trying to come back. They did a good job pitching and you have to tip your hat to them for fighting back.”

The Cougars took an early 3-0 lead in the second inning thanks to three-straight doubles by Cole Gambill, Jacob Wilk and Freddie Achecar that scored both Gambill and Wilk. Peyton Cole then brought Achecar home with a single to center field.

San Francisco cut into the three-run deficit in the fifth inning on an error with the bases loaded that scored two. The Dons then went in front in the sixth on a two-run homer to center to lead 4-3.

BYU answered in its half of the sixth inning after McIntyre doubled, advanced to third on a Gambill groundout and came home on Wilk’s single to right, tying it up at 4-all.

Another two-run shot by San Francisco in the seventh then put the Dons back in front again, 6-4.

The Cougars responded once more in the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back singles by Andrew Pintar and Brock Watkins. They were both brought home by a McIntyre double that tied it up at 6-6 through seven.

Using the international tie breaker rule, the Dons began the 10th inning with a runner on second base. A single to center gave USF a 7-6 lead before the Dons broke the game open with a two-run double to right center and scored another run on a wild pitch to make it 10-6, USF.

In the bottom of the tenth, BYU went three up-three down to fall, 10-6. The Cougars scored 6 runs on ten hits and the Dons scored 10 runs on 11 hits.

Player Notes

  • Watkins: 2-5, 1 R
