Lessar writes of growing up in the mining town of Price, Utah, and how he fought through multiple roadblocks, including being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, to sign with the Cougars. After winning a conference title, Lessar again met with disappointment when his senior season was suddenly cut short due to COVID-19, but the trial turned into a blessing when his childhood heroes came offering him a contract.
The Athletes' Journal series regularly features the unique perspectives of BYU student-athletes throughout the year and provides in-depth insight into the lives of members of BYU’s intercollegiate sports programs.
