McLaughlin Adds Second Freshman All-America Nod

PROVO, Utah - BYU relief pitcher Reid McLaughlin earned his second Freshman All-America honor after being named to Perfect Game's Freshman All-America First Team on Thursday. 

McLaughlin registered a 7-1 record with four saves in 25 outings for the Cougars this season in his first year out of Desert Mountain High School. The Scottsdale, Arizona, native is the first player in BYU history to have at least seven wins and four saves in a single season.

"Reid was a freshman, but he pitched like a senior all year long," BYU head coach Mike Littlewood said. "He was put in high leverage situations from day one and he got the job done nearly every time he took the mound. Reid is definitely one of the key reasons we had such a successful season."

The freshman had a 2.61 ERA in 51.2 innings pitched, totaling 46 strikeouts against just 11 walks on the year.

McLaughlin was previously named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball in addition to earning West Coast Conference All-Freshman Team honors earlier this season.

McLaughlin is the 20th Cougar to earn Freshman All-America honors and the first since Keaton Kringlen in 2016.
