Pitcher Saenz transfers from Oklahoma

Kenny Saenz, a five-foot-eight left-handed junior pitcher from Corpus Christi, Texas via the University of Oklahoma has transferred to play for BYU baseball.

Saenz (pronounced Signs) had 16 appearances in two years as a relief pitcher for Oklahoma, but recorded no career decisions in 13 innings and a 3.46 earned run average with the Sooners.  None of those appearances came in the four games between BYU and Oklahoma in 2015 at Las Vegas.

“We recruited Kenny intensely during his high school years and we couldn't be more excited he decided to attend BYU after a couple years at Oklahoma,” BYU coach Mike Littlewood said. “Kenny will sit out the 2016-17 season due to NCAA transfer rules, but he will still bring a wealth of experience and maturity to our pitching staff during practice.  We look forward to getting him on the field in the spring of 2018.”

Saenz was three-time first team all-state in Texas, was two-time All-South Texas MVP and helped the Moody High School team to three District 31-4A Championships. He had a 10-1 record as a senior, including striking out 14 batters in one game.

Prior to attending Oklahoma, Saenz was recruited by BYU, Texas A&M, Houston and Texas Tech.
