Lund named WCC Player of the Week
SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Brennon Lund, BYU's centerfielder, was named the Rawlings West Coast Conference Player of the Week by the league office Monday and by College Sports Madness.
Starting the season with three wins over Saint Louis University, Lund was 10-for-16 (.625) with three RBI, two doubles, one walk, one strikeout, one stolen base and 11 putouts (eight came in the 5-0 shutout) in the deepest centerfield (433 feet) in the country for a minor league park at AAA Cashman Field, home of the 51s in Las Vegas.
Lund was 6-for-10 in last Saturday's doubleheader. He led off beating out a single up the middle to start game, recording a 4-for-4 outing with three singles and a double. He scored BYU’s first run after alertly stealing third base in the eventual shutout.
“Brennon Lund continues to set the offensive tone for us, and it's good to see him get off to such a great start,” BYU coach Mike Littlewood said.
In the season opener last Friday, Lund was 4-for-6 in the leadoff position. The speedy Lund beat out a bunt to load the bases in the four-run third inning. He reached at least second base in the first, third, sixth, seventh and eighth innings of the 21-7 opener.
Lund, a junior from South Jordan, Utah, has a current five-game hitting streak through last weekend.
Steven Wilson of Santa Clara was named the Rawlings WCC Pitcher of the Week.
