PROVO, Utah--Pitcher Kolton Mahoney was drafted again, this time in the 16th round on Wednesday by the New York Yankees.

The six-foot junior right-handed pitcher from West Point, Utah, led BYU with 91 strikeouts in 85.1 innings and 23 appearances this past season. Mahoney said he will sign and report to a mini-camp in Tampa, Fla.

“The entire Cougar baseball family is happy for Kolton and his family,” BYU coach Mike Littlewood said. “He's worked hard every single day since returning home from his mission and I really believe Kolton's best days are ahead of him. The Yankee organization is getting a tremendous person and a player who has big league-type stuff on the mound. Once Kolton puts everything together, the sky will be the limit for him. We wish him the best as he begins his professional career.”

Mahoney was national Pitcher of the Week by Collegiate Baseball as well as WCC Pitcher of the Week for 15 strikeouts against Portland  In 2014, Mahoney was a 23rd-round draft pick by the Milwaukee Brewers after a season that included his no-hitter with 11 strikeouts at Nicholls State.
