Former San Francisco Giant Jeff Kent will be the keynote speaker at the second annual “First Pitch” Fundraising Dinner/Auction on January 24 at the NuSkin Ballroom in Provo.

Kent played 17 years  of professional baseball (1992-2008), including six with the Giants from 1997-2002. Kent won the National League Most Valuable Player award in 2000 with the Giants, and is the all-time leader in home runs among second basemen. He was a five-time All-Star and also played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Houston Astros, Cleveland Indians, New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays.

The event starts at 7 p.m., with a dinner followed by a presentation of the Cameron Tuckett Award by former BYU Coach Glen Tuckett, and an address by Kent.

Kent is from Huntington Beach, California, and played for the University of California-Berkeley. Last January, Jeremy Guthrie, a pitcher for the Kansas City Royals, was the keynote speaker for the inaugural event. The emcee for the event is KSL anchor Dave McCann.

This event will also feature a silent auction and a few live auction items like memorabilia from MLB, NFL, NBA and former Cougar greats. One of the live auction items is a trip for two to Phoenix with the baseball team on February 18-21 to watch the Cougars against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
