Busby joined the football program in 1996 and served as an administrative assistant to coach LaVell Edwards for five years. In 2001, he was named the director of football operations, where he served with head coaches Gary Crowton and Bronco Mendenhall. He retired from BYU in 2014.

“BYU is a special place and it has been a privilege to be associated with the football program for nearly 20 years. I am especially grateful for the talented people that I was able to work with and for three different head coaches that were kind enough to allow me to help,” said Busby upon retiring. “My best memories, however, will always be of the remarkable student-athletes that really make BYU what it is. It was inspiring for me to see them grow and develop both on and off the field. Their character and example have had a profound influence on me and my family.”

Busby was born and raised in Arizona and attended Northern Arizona University and later received a B.A. in English in 1984 from Arizona State.

He spent five years as the equipment manager and video coordinator at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. Busby taught at Madison High in Rexburg, Idaho, where he was a football and basketball assistant coach. Busby was an assistant to Arizona Governor Bruce Babbitt and was managing editor of The Wickenburg Sun.
