PROVO, Utah – BYU track and field was able to meet several of their goals in the BYU Cougar Invitational Thursday at the Clarence F. Robison Track and Field Complex.

Angela Shields had a good time that we believe will qualify her for regionals,” Eyeston said. "With the day we had today we are on our way to meet our goal of sending 50 athletes to the NCAA Regional.”

Shield’s posted her best mark of the season with a 59.67. After altitude adjustments, she would be tied for 31st regionally and 71st nationally.

“Good things happen at home,” BYU head coach Ed Eyestone said. “My gut feeling is that both Chase’s and Evan’s time will get them qualified for the regionals. Dakoda John had a great outing on the high-jump and Korey Smith improved a half second in the 400 hurdles as well”

Chase Horrocks finished the mile in 4:08.51 and Evan Argyle finished in 4:09.34. After converting to the 1500 meter, Horrocks posted a 3:45.58 mark which would be good for 45th in the west region, while Argyle posted a 3:46.33 mark good for 55th in the west region.

John jumped a season-high 7 feet 2.25 inches passing teammate Zachary Blackham for 10th in the West Region and tied for 14th in the nation.

Smith posted a 50.85 in the 400 meter hurdles to improve his season-high mark and move up to seventh in the west region and 11th nationally when adjusted for altitude.

The Cougars will head north for the Weber State Twilight Meet in Ogden, Utah, on Wednesday. A full meet schedule can be found on WeberStatesports.com.
