PROVO -- After playing solid for three straight days, Dominique Reynolds came up just one win short of winning the BYU Invitational Saturday. Reynolds lost to Sanja Hansson of Colorado State 6-4, 6-3 in a tough match.

Head coach Craig Manning said he was happy with how Reynolds played, but just didn't seem like she played her best.

"Dominique has been playing solid all week but just seemed nervous today. She played a little tight," Manning said. "Dominique did everything she could, but Sonja played really tough ."

In the doubles final, Jemima Haywood and Erin Polowski of Boise State defeated their teammates Alisha Ayling and Renata Stoop 8-2.

Although BYU only had one player in the finals of the tournament, Manning said he felt good with how his team played in the back draws, with Lu Oswald winning in the finals of that bracket. Oswald beat Caroline Pongratz of BSU 7-5, 6-2.

"It was a great tournament," Manning said. "We played a lot of tennis, which is always good this early in the fall season. Everyone is so nervous in the first tournament of the year, so this gave us a good opportunity to get the jitters out."

The Cougars travel to Denver next week to participate in the University of Colorado Invitational.BYU Invitational.

BYU Women Host BYU Invitational

PROVO, Utah (September 25, 2002) The BYU women's tennis team begins its fall season by hosting the BYU Invitational this Thursday through Saturday.

BYU will compete with five other solid teams, including Boise State, Colorado State, Weber State, Utah State and in-state rival Utah.

"All six teams competing in the invitational this year are pretty good," said BYU head coach Craig Manning. "It's going to be a really good tournament."

Matches will be played on BYU's outdoor courts starting at 8 a.m. on Thursday. In case of inclement weather, matches will be moved to the indoor courts.

The invitational will feature one main-draw singles' flight and one doubles' flight. The finals for both the singles and doubles matches will take place on Saturday at 12 p.m.

This will be the first official tournament for the Cougars this season. Both players and coaches are anxious to see how things go.

"We are excited about this years invitational," said BYU head coach Craig Manning. "These early matches are designed to allow us some time to get things going."

Coach Manning said that winning isn't the most important thing this early in the season.

"We're just trying to find out what we need to improve on right now," he said. "We have a couple of girls that are playing well and others that are coming along. We don't want to be peaking just yet. It is much too early in the season."
