CEDAR CITY -- In their second to last match of the season, the Cougar gymnastic team lost their third match-up against Southern Utah 195.700-194.750.

The meet was a disappointing loss and was uncharacteristic for the team. On vault the Cougars tied SUU with 48.900. The vault reflected the highest team score for the night, but the individual scores were lower than usual. Jaime Mabray and Dayna Smart took tied for first with 9.85.

On bars the Cougars had an average night with a score of 48.500 compared to SUU's 48.755. SUU's Sheena Shaw and Jaime Mabray tied for first with 9.825. Freshman Cassie Myers took third with 9.800.

Moving to bars the Cougars tied their bar score with another 48.500. SUU stayed ahead of the game with a 48.950. Dayna Smart finished first with 9.850 and SUU took the next three spots. Candace Bauer, Kandis Kelly and Kacie Capra tied for fifth with 9.800.

On the floor BYU had another low with 48.85 to SUU's 49.075. SUU's Rachel Tanner finished first with a 9.900, the highest score on any event of then night. Jaime Mabray and Marie-Helene Claveau finished at the top as always though with 9.875 and 9.850 respectively.

In the all-around, Leah Sakhitab and Carly Geronimo finished first and second. Kacie Capra finished at the top of BYU all-arounders for the first time of her career with 38.825. It was a great way to finish the night for SUU's last meet of the season.

The Cougars will now prepare for their final meet next Saturday against No. 2 Utah. The meet will be in the Marriott Center at 7 p.m.

PROVO -- The BYU gymnastic team has climbed back up the ranking ladder to No. 13 this week after a slow descent over the weeks.

They owe their ranking to their best night of the season against Utah State on March 10th and their win over Central Michigan who were previously ranked No. 12.

Now they prepare to face No. 26 Southern Utah for the third time this season. The score is 1-1 in the series. The Cougars lost the last meet because of an unprecedented number of falls on bars.

The Cougars have a winning record of 10-4, losing only once at home. They have been ranked as high as No. 8 and their lowest ranking was No. 16. They have had many season and career highs this year as well as scoring a No. 3 BYU team record on bars March 10th against Utah State.

Southern Utah has a full week. Monday night they lost to Utah State. Friday they will host No. 9 Oklahoma and then they will have little rest before the match against the Cougars Saturday night.

Saturday's match will be at 7 p.m. in Cedar City in the Centrum.
