PROVO, Utah — The BYU Robison Invitational came to a close on Saturday with a few more Cougars submitting regional-qualifying marks at Clarence F. Robison Track and Field Complex.

“The meet went well overall,” No. 17 BYU head coach Mark Robison said. “The kids really responded and a lot of them performed well enough to qualify for the regional meet in a few weeks. Our goal is to continue to improve and we saw that improvement this week.”

In the track events, BYU had four first-place finishes on the day. Cade Lindahl won the men’s 400-meter final with a time of 47.10. In the 100-meter dash final, Fan Fan Charles came in first place with a season-best time of 10.50. Jason Hinds took fourth place in 10.69.

Ryan Waite and Justin Hedin came in first and second, respectively, in the 800-meter run final. Waite crossed the finish line in 1:49.48 and Hedin came in just behind with a time of 1:51.68. In the 200-meter final, Lindahl came in fourth place, finishing in 21.65.

Eight Cougars finished in the top-10 of the men’s timed mile. Tommy Gruenewald, Marcus Dickson and Jared Ward took the top three spots with respective times of 4:06.28, 4:07.63 and 4:08.23. Jared Rohatinsky (4:10.61), Steve Flint (4:10.69), Ryan Jones (4:12.99) and David Graham (4:13.04) finished fifth through eighth, respectively. Aaron Fletcher took 10th place with a time of 4:16.00.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Erik Harris grabbed second place with a time of 9:09.92. Daniel Carney came in third in 9:10.32. Both times are likely to qualify the runners for the regional meet. Curtis Carr took fourth place, finishing in 9:20.50. and Jacob Cosby took sixth in 9:41.74.

Bejon Bryant came in second place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.96. Korey Smith won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.52.

BYU’s 4x100-meter relay team of Jacob Arslanian, John Lamont, Jason Hinds and Charles ran the team’s best time of the season with a mark of 41.04. The BYU 4x400-meter relay team of Graham, Hedin, Arslanian and Waite came in third place with a time of 3:21.75.

In the throws, Jacob Foutz took sixth place in the hammer competition with a throw of 161-00.25. Joseph Stull took eighth with a throw of 155-04.50. Winston Wilkinson took second place overall in the men’s discus final with a throw of 167-09.50. Foutz came in fourth place with a throw of 159-02.25. Aaron Clark and Clinton Prestwich came in sixth and eighth place, respectively, throwing 156-04.50 and 147-04.50.

The Cougars fared well in the pole vault competition, with Victor Weirich winning the invitational division with a mark of 17-07.00 while Braydon Bringhurst took third place, clearing 16-07.25. Tyler Brown finished in fifth place by clearing 16-01.25. Kyle Brown and Jameson Shirley tied for sixth place in the event, each vaulting 15-07.50.

In the high jump, Sam Rockwood took second place overall with a mark of 6-11.00, which will likely qualify him for the regional meet. Dakoda John took fourth place with a jump of 6-07.25. Scott Matheson won the triple jump event, jumping 44-07.75.

The Cougars will head to Ogden, Utah next Wednesday for the Weber State Invite.

PROVO, Utah -- The No. 17 BYU men’s track and field team will host the Robison Invitational, its only home meet of the outdoor season, this weekend at the Clarence F. Robison Track and Field Complex.

“We’re very excited for this meet, especially since it looks like we’ll have some great weather,” head coach Mark Robison said. “The kids are done with finals and hopefully they’ve had time to recover. Traditionally, this is one of our best meets of the year because the athletes have less stress from school and get more rest.”

After solid outings at the last few meets, BYU moved into the Top 25 national rankings for the first time all season, jumping 20 spots to land at No. 17 in the country. Most of the men’s track team rested last weekend and took time to wrap up school work as the semester came to a close. Robison said that extra week of rest plus the excitement of performing in front of the home crowd is what makes this weekend’s meet special.

“It’s always fun to compete at home with your family and friends coming to support you,” Robison said. “We also have a great facility here and we usually get a lot of our best marks at this meet. We’ve got a good group of guys who we’re hoping will be able to get qualifying marks for regionals this week.”

Competition from around the region will compete at the Robison Invitational, including Utah, Weber State, Utah Valley University and Idaho State. The multi-events will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by the track and field events on Friday and Saturday.
