PROVO, Utah – BYU track and field will travel to Logan, Utah, and San Diego to compete in the Aggie Invitational and UCSD Triton Invitational April 12-13.

“We’re looking forward to a good meet,” BYU head coach Ed Eyestone said. “We won’t be sending a lot of our athletes, but those that do compete, we anticipate to compete well. The athletes not traveling will be training through the weekend.”

The No. 4 BYU men’s team and No. 19 BYU women’s team will send groups of sprinters, jumpers and field athletes to Logan to compete in the Aggie Invitational at the Ralph Maughan Track Stadium. A team of throwers will travel to the Triton Stadium for the UCSD Triton Invitational.

Pole vaulters will open up competition for BYU at the Aggie Invitational on Friday. Eyestone anticipates a strong performance headlined by Elise Romney. Earlier this season at the UNLV Invite, Romney cleared a mark of 4.10m/13-5.25 to finish first in the pole vault and tie for the No. 9 BYU all-time mark. On the men’s side, Alex Rios and Jameson Shirley will be leading the Cougars.

Rickey Fantroy Jr. will be running in the 100m. Derek Sorensen on the men’s side and Haley Rogers for the women’s team will be racing in the 100m and the 200m. Jaslyn Gardner will also be back in action competing in the 100m and the long jump. Eyestone noted that Rogers had a strong race last week in the 400m at the Sun Angel Classic and he’s looking forward to see her performance as she drops down in distance.

All-American Andrea Stapleton-Johnson will continue to build on her performances from this season. After clearing 1.83m/6-0 at the Sun Angel Classic, Eyestone hopes to see her continue in consistency.

“Andrea’s striving to maintain her consistency and get that confidence that will help her as she goes into the final stages of the season,” Eyestone said.

Eyestone noted that a group of throwers will be competing in the Triton Invitational including Jacob Foutz in the discus and hammer throw, Jefferson Jarvis in the discus and shot put and several javelin throwers. Last weekend at the Sun Angel Classic, Foutz earned a personal-best mark of 63.30m/207-8 to take second place in the men’s hammer premiere heat.

Kraymer Eppich will compete in the javelin throw at the Utah/Weber State Spring Classic after throwing his best mark in the javelin (61.48m/201-8.0) since his redshirt year and placing fifth overall last weekend at the Sun Angel Classic.
