FORT WORTH -- Five different players scored in double figures as the No. 7/8 BYU men’s basketball team defeated the TCU Horned Frogs 79-56 on the road Saturday afternoon in the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
"I think some of our best games this year are when we spread our scoring out," head Dave Rose said. "When we get five or six guys making shots it makes it hard for teams to guard us."
Senior guard Jimmer Fredette led all scorers with 23 points and sophomore Stephen Rogers came off the bench and added 15 points on four-of-six shooting. Sophomore Brandon Davies and senior Jackson Emery each added 11 points and junior Noah Hartsock scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
"We got a huge lift from Stephen Rogers. He came off the bench and hit some big shots," Rose said. "TCU was double teaming Jimmer and Brandon in the post and it opened things up for Stephen."
The Cougars (25-2, 11-1) shot 45.8 percent for the game and hit 11 three-pointers while limiting TCU (10-18, 1-12) to 36.9 percent from the field and just 5-of-19 from behind the arc.
BYU got started with Hartsock picking up an easy layup right after tip off. Emery followed with a deep three and another long two on the following Cougar possessions to make it 7-0 after the first two minutes of play.
Hartsock would drain a three at the 14:06 mark and Fredette would add another three-pointer right away to give BYU a 20-10 lead.
Davies grabbed an offensive rebound off of a missed free-throw and dished it to Rogers for a three-pointer with under four minutes in the half to extend the Cougars’ lead to 36-24. Rogers added another trey just two minutes later to keep BYU up 41-26.
Senior Logan Magnusson got into the three-point action on a jumper with seven seconds on the clock before halftime. Six different Cougars hit three-pointers in the first half to give BYU a 45-28 lead heading into the locker room.
Five BYU players had six or more points in the first half, including Fredette with nine and Emery and Rogers adding eight apiece.
Emery snatched a TCU pass and finished the steal with a fast-break layup to give BYU a 52-32 lead with over 16 minutes remaining in the game.
The Horned frogs would go on a 6-0 run midway through the second half but Rogers provided a spark off the bench, scoring the Cougars next four points over a two-minute span to keep BYU out in front 62-43 with 9:46 left. Rogers hit his third three-pointer of the game three minutes later to put the Cougars up 69-49.
Davies put down a one-handed dunk to give BYU a 21-point lead with over three minutes remaining and a 75-54 lead. TCU wouldn’t get any closer as the Cougars finished with a 79-56 win.

Cougars at TCU on Saturday
No. 7/8 BYU basketball will play at TCU on Saturday, Feb. 19, in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum at 3:30 p.m. CT. The Cougars are 24-2 overall and 10-1 in MWC action and are coming off a 72-59 win against rival Utah at home. Jimmer Fredette scored 23 points, Charles Abouo had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds and Jackson Emery added 17 points, five assists and six steals in the win. Fredette leads the nation in scoring at 27.3 points per game and is shooting .421 from three. Jackson Emery adds 12.7 points per game and Brandon Davies is third on the team in scoring at 11.3 points per game. TCU is 10-17 overall and 1-11 in MWC play and is coming off a 69-55 loss to Colorado State. The Horned Frogs have lost nine straight, starting with a loss at Colorado State on Jan. 15. Garlon Green leads the team in scoring at 11.6 points per game and adds 4.9 rebounds while shooting .496 from the field and .471 from three. Hank Thorns is second on the team in scoring at 10.3 points per game and averages 6.5 assists per game. TCU’s Last Outing — Frogs Drop Home Battle with Rams
FORT WORTH—Colorado State forward Andy Ogide scored a game-high 20 points and added eight rebounds Saturday to lead the Rams to a 69-55 victory over TCU at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
The loss dropped TCU’s overall season record to 10-17, including 1-11 in the Mountain West Conference. CSU improved to 18-7 overall and 8-3 in the MWC.
Two Frogs scored in double figures Wednesday, led by sophomore forward Nikola Cerina and junior forward J.R. Cadot with 12 points each. Cerina also totaled a career-high five steals. Junior guard Hank Thorns added 11 points, eight assists and four steals, while sophomore forward Garlon Green had 10 points with a trio of 3-pointers.
In addition to Ogide’s 20 points, CSU received a double-double from forward Greg Smith featuring 19 points and 10 boards. Ogide and Smith combined to go 20-of-23 at the charity stripe, as CSU went 27-of-39 at the line overall for the evening. Forward Travis Franklin chipped in 10 points, while fellow forward Pierce Hornung pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to help lead the Rams to a 46-28 advantage on the glass.
Much like in the team’s first matchup this season in Fort Collins, Colorado State attacked the basket all evening, scoring 51 of its 69 points either in the paint or at the free-throw line. TCU was able to force the Rams into 19 turnovers, and the Frogs collected a season-high 13 steals on the evening.
TCU scored the opening basket of the second half to climb within one point of the Rams, 26-25, but CSU responded with 15 of the game’s next 19 points in what turned out to be the game’s most crucial stretch.
Smith totaled six of the points, including his only 3-pointer of the contest, and he added one last free throw to push the Rams to their largest lead of 14 points at 42-28 with 14:29 remaining. The Frogs twice cut their deficit to eight points or fewer down the stretch but were unable to climb any closer.
CSU held the Frogs to only 34.5 percent shooting in the second half and only 35.1 percent overall for the evening. The Rams did most of their second-half damage at the stripe, going 24-of-33 on free throws.
The Frogs leaned on their defense in the opening stanza to keep themselves in the game despite being outrebounded by a 24-11 margin. The squad forced 12 Ram turnovers in the half and limited CSU to a 1-for-9 showing from beyond the arc. TCU still trailed for much of the period and was down by six with just over three minutes remaining, 26-20, but the squad held the Rams scoreless until the teams reached the locker room.
Series Notes
BYU leads the all-time series against TCU 17-3. The Cougars are 13-0 against the Horned Frogs under Dave Rose, including an 83-67 win in Provo on Jan. 18, 2011.
