STOCKTON, Calif. – Junior Kyle Collinsworth tied the NCAA record for most triple-doubles in a season with his fourth in a 93-80 road win over Pacific Thursday night in the Alex G. Spanos Center.

"Tonight was pretty magical as far as watching guys come in and responding in a positive way with that opportunity," BYU basketball coach Dave Rose said. "When you have a surprise and a guy doesn't play, there's going to be opportunities for guys and that's how we presented it to the team. When we called upon them tonight they were just ready to go."

Collinsworth finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds, a career-best 11 assists, three steals and a block, while Tyler Haws finished with a game-high 26 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Chase Fischer followed with 18 points, going 5 of 9 from 3-point range, and Skyler Halford added 15 points on the night.

Halford opened the game connecting from beyond the arc to give the Cougars a 3-0 start. At the 18:15 mark, Haws made BYU’s second triple to push BYU’s lead to 8-4. BYU and Pacific continued to trade baskets with Fischer’s deep 3-pointer giving BYU a six-point lead with 11:39 left in the first half.

With 6:05 remaining in the half, the Tigers closed within one point, but was answered by Halford’s shot from deep and Collinsworth’s putback layup to put BYU back up 32-26. Pacific cut its deficit to 37-34 at the 2:20 mark, but the Cougars ended the half on a 6-0 run with Collinsworth’s spin to the basket at the buzzer to put BYU up 43-34.

Collinsworth led all players at the half with 12 points, four rebounds and six assists, while Fischer added eight points. Haws and Halford contributed six points each.

Haws made the first field goal of the second half with Halford and Fischer adding two more 3-pointers less than two minutes in to give BYU a 51-39 lead. The Cougars kept their distance leading 61-52, but Pacific came within four points with 12:03 remaining.

Fischer responded for the Cougars with two more triples in a 1:31 span to extend the lead back to 73-59 as part of BYU’s 10-0 run. Another 7-0 BYU run that included Haws’ quick jumper from the inbound pass pushed the lead to 80-64 with under six minutes on the clock. At the 3:20 mark, Collinsworth grabbed his 10th rebound for his fourth career triple-double. The Cougars pulled away to take the game 93-80.

The Cougars finished the game shooting 53.8 percent from the field and outrebounded the Tigers 35-27.

BYU stays on the road to play Saint Mary’s at the McKeon Pavilion Saturday at 8 p.m. PST. The game will be televised live on ESPN2 and broadcast on the Cougar IMG Sports Network on KSL Newsradio 102.7 FM/1160 AM.
