FORT WORTH -- No. 27 TCU scored early and often, and BYU could not get anything going offensively as it suffered a 14-2 loss on Friday night.

TCU (29-10, 11-2) did something in the bottom of the second that it couldn't do the entire previous game, score a run. The BYU (22-15, 7-4) defense finally gave up a run on a sacrifice-fly hit by Clint Arnold that brought around the catcher Andrew Walker to score and give TCU the 1-0 edge. It would prove to be all TCU from there.

To start the game BYU pitcher Jordan Muir picked up right where Jesse Craig left off, as in the first inning he retired the TCU side in the first.

In the second the BYU appeared to get things going offensively, as Kent Walton hit a lead-off single to center field. But right after Walton got on base, he was caught stealing. After a Kasey Ko pop-up, the next batter, Steve Parker walked, but was caught out on a base-running error to end the inning for the Cougars.

After the Cougars were once again retired in order by Chris Johnson in the third, TCU added on another run extending the lead to, 2-0. Muir was able to prevent any further damage as he struck out the next batter he faced and forced the next one to ground out to end the inning.

BYU got a man on in the fourth after Nakayama walked, but came up with a similar result as they couldn't bring him around to score. In the bottom of the inning Muir found himself in another jam with the bases loaded and no outs. The next batter Muir faced he struck out, but the next batter Ben Carruthers hit a single to drive in a run and that opened up the floodgates for TCU as it extended the lead to 6-0 as Muir headed to the bench, replaced by the right-handed Michael Ward.

In the top of the fifth BYU responded to the offensive outburst by TCU, with a leadoff double by Parker. The double was BYU's first extra base hit of the game. With a man in scoring position, Ko drew a walk and Stephen Wells singled to load the bases. Even with the bases loaded the Cougars couldn't bring anyone around to score, as J.T. Musso hit into a fielder's choice double play and Austin Hall followed that up by hitting a pop fly to first base.

Ward, in his first full inning of work had his hands full. In the inning he struggled giving up a single, walking a batter, hitting a batter and giving up two unearned runs, before being replaced by freshman Brandon Michon. Two fielding errors didn't help the Cougar pitchers and Michon finally got BYU of the inning giving up two more unearned runs that gave TCU the commanding 10-0 lead.

BYU unloaded the bench in the seventh inning and finally got on the board after Chase Frampton hit a triple and was then brought home by Thomas Bills single. Bills delivered again in the top of the ninth inning hitting an RBI double, but it proved too little too late as TCU won 14-2.

Muir, 4-3, picked up the loss for BYU, while Chris Johnson, 8-2, picked up the win for TCU.

The rubber match will take place on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT. Lefty Jake Wortham, 4-3, will be on the mound for the Cougars.
