Before BYU

Prepped at Roswell High where he was a McDonald's All-American and was listed in Who's Who in American High School Sports ... lettered three years in basketball ... was all-state, all-district 4A and played in the North-South game ... holds the state record for blocked shots in a game at 18 ... led team in rebounding, blocked shots and shooting percentage ... averaged 14 points and eight rebounds per game ... coached by Jo Cantou (New Mexico).

Freshman Year 1993-1994

Was the first reserve off the bench at center the last four games of the season ... came off the bench very effectively in the WAC Tournament at Albuquerque and had six points and two blocked shots against Colorado State. Redshirt in (1993-94).

Sophmore Year 1996-1997

Returned from LDS Church mission ... was slowed by a severe ankle sprain the day before practice began ... started the first four games of the season ... suffered a shoulder separation while in Hawai`i for the Rainbow Classic ... had a crowd-wowing dunk at Colorado State ...
