Prepped at Mesa High for two seasons where he averaged 20 points and 12 rebounds and at Jefferson Davis High in Houston ... was two-time all-state ... was all-region in basketball, football and track ... coached by Mike Schmidt.

(1996-98): Played at Utah Valley State College for two seasons ... in 1997-98 he averaged 17.1 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists ... earned NJCAA honorable mention All-America honors, was named first team All-SWAC, was team MVP, and won the UVSC Crowd Pleaser Award ... had a triple-double versus Snow College ... shot 62.2 percent from the field ... as a freshman he averaged 15.1 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists ... played for the NJCAA All-Star team in Florida in 1998 and for the NJCAA All-Star team that toured Australia in 1997 ... coached by Jeff Reinert (Gonzaga).
