Born January 1972 in Murray, Utah...parents are Eldon and Dorothy...older brothers Glen (1976-79) and Fred (1978-82) played for BYU...the youngest of six sons...married Karen Jex in September 1994...recruited by Kansas, Utah, Cornell and Arizona State...served an LDS mission to Melbourne, Australia.
Before BYU
Prepped at Bingham High in South Jordan... lettered four times in basketball and twice in baseball... two-time Utah 4A Most Valuable Player... led team to a pair of state championships (1989 and 1990)... averaged 21 points and 14 rebounds per game as a junior, while team was 23-1... senior averages include 26 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocked shots per game... joined Shawn Bradley on the West team at the McDonald's Capital Classic All-Star game in Washington, D.C... also played in the inaugural Wildcat Classic in Tucson... played on the Utah Select Team that twice defeated the Soviet Junior National Team... coached by George Sluga (Utah).
Led the WAC in field goal percentage... All-WAC Tournament Selection... All-Cougar Classic... honorable mention All-Far West by Basketball Weekley ... honorable mention All-WAC... selected by his teammates as Most Outstanding Player.
All-WAC First Team... led the team in points, rebounds and assists against Louisiana Tech... had a team high .551 field goal percentage... had a team-high 16 blocks on the season... led the team in points with 375 and averaged 20.8 points per game.
