• Prepped at Bakersfield High where he was first team all-area, two-time all-league, three times all-area honorable mention
• Twice selected as team captain and the school's most valuable player
• Kearn Counth Baseball Player of the Month, three times
• Had a 16-18 record with a 3.73 ERA, five saves and 269 strikeouts (12.5 average) and batted .320 in four years at BHS
• Set school record when he struck out 16 in a 7-0 victory vs. Golden Valley HS
• Struck out 15 batters in five innings in a 3-2 victory over two-time defending Valley Champion Stockdale HS
• Senior Class President, voted by the faculty as "Most Respectful Student"
• Presented the US Marine Corp Distinguished Athlete Award and President's Award for Academic Excellence
• Recruited by UCLA, Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly SLO, Hawai`i, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Oregon and Arizona State
