Born in Price ... parents are Stanford and Teri Parsons ...uncle Lynn Parsons played basketball at BYU (1967-69) ... father Stanford played basketball at Snow College and Kalen originally went to Snow with the intent to play both basketball and baseball ... brother Greg played baseball at the College of Eastern Utah ... cousin Rhet played basketball at Southern Utah University (1986-87) ... majoring in landscape management.

Before BYU

Prepped at Green River High where his team twice won the state baseball championships ... set the state record for consecutive strikeouts in a game with 10 as a senior ... was academic all-state and 1A MVP as a senior and was all-state from his freshman through junior years ... recorded 190 strikeouts and a 1.37 in his career ... lettered four times in baseball, basketball and golf ... basketball team won state as a junior ... was 1A MVP as a senior in basketball and was a BCI Basketball All-American in AAU as a sophomore and junior ... coached by Dale Richards ... played summer baseball in the Central Illinois Collegiate League for the Decatur Blues.
