Born in San Luis Obispo, Calif., ... parents are Rob and Judy ... father pitched for Ricks College ... served an LDS Church mission to Puerto Rico ... played in the summer of 1999 for the Grand Rapids Sullivans/DeVries (Michigan) where he hit 15 homers, batted .450, had a .940 slugging average and played with that team at the World Port Tournament in Rotterdam, Netherlands where he was the home run king ... in the summer of 2000 he again hit .40 with nine doubles playing in the Southern Cal Wood Bat League for the Orange County Scorpions until he returned home due to an illness ... majoring in public relations and minoring in English.

Before BYU

Prepped at Capital High where he lettered three times in baseball and twice in football ... was first-team all-league as a third baseman and second-team all-league as a catcher ... was league co-MVP in 1995 and was all-state ... played for the CABA World Series Champions in 1994 ... editor of his school's newspaper ... was athlete of the year as a prep freshman ... was all-league as a tight end ... coached by Dennis Gray and Steve Avila.

Academic All-WAC ... nominee for Freshman All-America ... had a 10-game hitting streak midseason and his batting average had soared to .438 in 1999

Sophmore Year 2000

Academic All-America nominee ... selected as the Baseball Student of the Year ... his three-run homer was the game-winning RBI in the 8-3 upset over No. 2 Alabama ... his 12-game hitting streak ended in game two of the MWC Tournament ... batted .335 in starting 52 of his 54 games ... had eight homers, 66 hits, 12 doubles and led team with 50 RBI.
