Born in La Jolla, Calif., ... parents are Jeff and Leigh Ann ... he is an Eagle Scout ... his brother Kevin played baseball for BYU (1999-2004) and his father ('72-75) and grandfather, Karol played football and baseball at BYU from (`49-51) ... older sister Heather teaches at BYU ... enjoys longboarding, snowboarding, and cliff jumping ... served a French-speaking Church mission to Montreal, Canada ... played in the summer of 2006 in the Boise Summer Collegiate League, batting .371 and was one of the top five hitters in the league and was voted first team all league first baseman ... married Alta Whipple in August 2007.

Before BYU

Prepped at Reno High, where he was coached by Pete Savage ... 2002 all-state Academic team ... second-team All-Sierra League as a designated hitter ... hit walk-off double to win high school state championship game ... earned academic all-state recognition with a 4.0 GPA ... played in Arizona Summer Collegiate League where he batted .398 ... also lettered in cross country.
