At BYU

SOPHOMORE: His only victory came in a come-from-behind 8-7 relief effort against UNLV in the MWC Tournament to advance BYU to the championship ... one of his four strikeouts in four innings of relief of a 17-3 loss to Utah in Provo came against his brother, Jed ... was a pinch-runner and played first base in the last inning of an 8-6 victory over UNLV ... a 4-1 victory got away from him at the University of Hawai`i-Hilo when heavy rains negated him pitching 4.2 innings, giving up two hits and striking out seven Vulcans ... his starts came at UC Santa Barbara, Pacific, Washington and in the final game against USC in the NCAA Regionals in Los Angeles. FRESHMAN: In 2001 he joined the team in mid-March after BYU's basketball team was eliminated by Cincinnati in the NCAA basketball post-season ... one of few players in the nation to participate in baseball NCAA Regionals and NCAA basketball post-season ... declared in May that he would redshirt the coming basketball season to concentrate on baseball ... earned conference championship rings in both basketball and baseball ... had eight appearances for 11.1 innings and a 7.15 ERA with an 0-2 record all in relief ... among his effective appearances was one inning in the 14-13 victory at Utah ... played a valuable reserve role on BYU's NCAA basketball tournament team this past season, appearing in 29 of 33 games. He averaging 2.8 points and 1.9 rebounds in 10 minutes per game while shooting 55.8 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from the free throw line. Prepped at Provo High, where his baseball coach for two years was Vance Law, before he came to BYU ... selected all-state in baseball as he recorded 10 wins, struck out 96, batted .426, hit six homers, and had 11 steals ... was a pitcher and first baseman ... named Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune all-state in basketball as a junior and senior ... was a three-time all-region player and led his team to the state championship game as a senior ... averaged 21 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks as a junior while earning all-state honors ... averaged 23 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks as a senior and was named region MVP ... named Utah Valley MVP by the Daily Herald ... Frank Layden Tipoff Club Player of the Month during senior season ... lettered four years in basketball and three years in baseball ... maintained a 3.9 GPA and graduated with honors ... was recruited by Gonzaga, Santa Clara, Utah and Utah State.
