PROVO, Utah – BYU women’s tennis coach Lauren Jones-Spencer announced the signing of three high school athletes to play for the Cougars, Mayci Jones, Toby Miclat and Nicolette Tran. Jones and Miclat will join the team for the 2013-14 season. Tran will begin playing this January.

All three recruits are from southern California, which is the top women’s tennis section in the country.

“Signing Nicolette, Mayci and Toby is a big breakthrough for our program,” Jones-Spencer said. “All three of them are top junior players who will transition into great college players. I am really happy about the direction we are headed with the addition of these girls.”

Jones, the younger sister of Lauren Jones-Spencer, is a five-star recruit from Coto de Caza, Calif. She is ranked No. 25 nationally for the 2013 class of recruits. Jones has a singles record of 51-23, which helped her earn a No. 5 ranking in southern California. She also won two national tournaments this year.

Tran, a 2012 graduate of Julian Charter School in Lake Elsinore, Calif., is also a five-star recruit. Her older sister, Desiree is a junior on the current women’s team. Tran is ranked No. 45 nationally for her class.

Miclat is a four-star recruit and has a singles record of 42-24. A product of Claremont High from Claremont, Calif., she is ranked No. 82 in the country for 2013 recruits.
