Paul and Waldron Win Doubles Title
BERKELEY – Aubrey Paul reached the singles final of the Cal Nike Invitational and grabbed the White Doubles Round Robin title alongside Lisa Waldron for the Cougars Saturday at Cal Berkeley.
After an impressive Friday performance that propelled her pass the quarterfinals, junior Aubrey Paul only dropped two games to Alexis Marquez of San Jose State during the semifinals, 6-1, 6-1.
Paul advanced to face Nicole Koehly in the finals on Sunday but will not participate due to BYU’s policy of not playing on Sunday.
Paul and partner freshman Lisa Waldron went undefeated during the round robin event, sweeping opponents 3-0.
The BYU duo edged out Cal’s Catie Visico and San Jose State’s Alexis Marquez 8-6 before topping Fresno State’s Anne Susdorf and Iva Lepcevska of Nevada, 8-4. Paul and Waldron slipped past Carolina O’Haren and Charlotte Newell of West Coast Conference opponent Santa Clara, 9-7.
The Cougars now turn their attention to preparing for Regional’s in Las Vegas Oct. 12 – Oct. 15.
