Netters to Compete in Cal Nike Invitational

PROVO, Utah – Coming off a dominant finish in the BYU Invitational, the BYU women’s tennis team will head to Berkeley, Calif., to participate in the Cal Nike Invitational Friday.

Senior Megan Price defeated teammate freshman Morgan Anderson to claim the singles title of the BYU Invitational. Junior Aubrey Paul and sophomore Desiree Tran took the doubles title for the Cougars. Paul earned the singles title of Bracket B.

The tournament runs Sept. 30 - Oct. 2 at the University of California, Berkley, but the Cougars will not participate on Sunday due to BYU’s policy of not playing on Sunday.

For the first time as a member of the West Coast Conference, BYU will face players from WCC opponents Saint Mary’s College, San Francisco and Santa Clara, as well as players from Arizona State, Fresno State, Nevada, Pacific, Sacramento State, San Jose State, UC Davis, UC Berkeley and USC.

The Cougars will have the chance to compete against 12 players ranked in the top 100, including No. 1 Jana Juricova from California.

The tournament begins at 8 a.m. Friday and will feature two 32-woman singles flights (Gold and Blue) and one 16-woman singles flight (White) as well as two 16-team doubles flights (Gold and Blue) and one eight-team doubles flight (White).
