PROVO, Utah – The BYU women’s tennis team opens the fall season Thursday Sept. 15 with the annual BYU Invitational, facing athletes from Utah State and Weber State.

“This tournament is good for our players to help get them into match play and exposed to what it’s going to be like this year,” said BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer. “I’m excited to see where the girls are at and get them into competition. It’s a great opportunity for the girls to do well.”

Three freshmen join the Cougars this year – Morgan Anderson, Meghan Sheehan-Dizon and Lisa Waldron.

BYU welcomes back senior Megan Price, juniors Aubrey Paul and Andie Young, and sophomores Kelsie Craig and Desiree Tran.

A BYU player has won the BYU Invitational singles title four years in a row, and the Cougars are looking to continue their winning tradition this year. Last year BYU dominated competition, winning both the singles and doubles title. Callie Craig claimed the singles title for the Cougars and teamed up with Price to take the doubles title.

The tournament runs from Thursday to Saturday. The athletes will begin play at 10 a.m. Thursday at the BYU Outdoor Tennis Courts, located behind the Smith Fieldhouse. Admission is free and matches are open to the public.

Spectators may park in the “Y Lot” parking lot after 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday and all day Saturday.

The collegiate athletes participating in the tournament compete as individuals but represent their respective school.
