Loss on the Road for Women's Tennis

MINNEAPOLIS -- After its first road loss of the season to No. 75 Minnesota 6-1, the BYU women’s tennis team gears up to face No. 39 North Carolina State Saturday.

Elizaveta Ezhova and Desiree Tran pulled off the only doubles win for the Cougars (4-4), going 8-6 against Alexa Palen and Doron Muravnik on Court 2. No.77 Callie Craig and Megan Price fell to Natallia Pintusava and Alessandra Ferrazzi 8-6, while Elle Carney and Aubrey Paul fell to Magdalena Wiecha and Mariana Spilca 8-5.

Aubrey Paul, now 7-1 in singles for the season, put up the Cougars’ only point with her straight-set victory against Peta Forsyth 6-3, 6-0. Carney lost her singles match to Ferrazzi 6-2, 6-2 and Price fell to No. 74 Pintusava on Court 1 7-5, 6-3. Palen defeated Ezhova 7-6 (1), 6-1 to seal the win for Minnesota (4-3).

Tran put up a hard fight on Court 4, going to three sets before ending 6-0, 1-6, 7-5 for a Minnesota win. Craig also came back to tie the match in the second set 6-3, 5-7, but lost 1-0 (5) in the tiebreaker.

The Cougars play North Carolina State at 1 p.m. Saturday in Minneapolis.
