TEMPE -- An Arizona road trip ended with a 7-0 loss for the BYU women's tennis team Saturday. WIth the result against No. 18 Arizona State, the Cougars drop to 4-9 on the season.

The Sun Devils struck quickly, collecting wins on all three courts to earn the doubles point. Liza Ezhova and Romina Nedakovic dropped an 8-3 decision at the No. 3 position. At the No. 1 spot, the No. 69 pair from ASU defeated McCall Jones and Kristina Doerr 8-4. Arizona State closed things out in pairs play by beating Elle Carney and Chie Hayasaka on court two.

In singles, Ezhova was the first victim of the Sun Devils' momentum. The junior fell 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 6 position. Classmate Carney followed with a 6-1, 6-2 loss on court five. ASU clinched the match with Nadia Abdala's straight-set win over Nedakovic.

The Sun Devils kept hammering away, securing victories on the remaining three courts. Jones was the only Cougar able to capture a set. The sophomore won the first set 6-4 but lost the second 4-6. She and Micaela Hein played a 10-point tiebreak rather than a full set because the match result was already set. Jones fell 10-4 in the tiebreak and Hein tallied another point for Arizona State. No. 78 Kelcy McKenna completed the sweep with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Doerr on court two.

BYU will finish its three-week road trip and open conference play next week in Salt Lake. The Cougars will face No. 48 Utah Saturday at noon.
