LAS -- Senior Kristina Doerr won two matches at the ITA Mountain Region Championships Thursday to become the only Cougar left to vie for the singles title.

Doerr bested a Northern Arizona opponent before breezing by UNLV’s Anna Maskaljun 6-1, 6-3. With the victories, the senior cemented a spot in the quarterfinals and continues play Friday.

Sophomore McCall Jones had the chance to join her teammate in the quarterfinal round but fell to Colorado’s Melisa Esposito 6-4, 6-2 in the second match of the day. Jones will now compete in the consolation draw.

Chie Hayasaka and Megan Price recorded two wins each in the consolation draw, including at least one victory over a conference opponent. Both players move on to the next round and will compete Friday.

Jones and Price remain the pair to watch as the sophomores moved past NAU challengers 8-5 to clinch a place in the Round of 16. The other Cougars competing in doubles had less success in the main draw but will play in the consolation rounds.

Tournament play resumes Friday at the Darling Tennis Center. Matches start at 8 a.m. For updated results, click here.
