Invite to End with All-BYU Singles and Doubles Finals

PROVO -- The second day of the BYU Invitational saw several impressive performances from the BYU women’s tennis team. Senior Kristina Doerr and sophomore McCall Jones won both of their respective matches and will compete Saturday for a chance to win the title.

Jones, last year’s singles champion, looked poised to repeat after knocking out Utah’s Paige Miles 6-1, 6-1 and then dismantling Ute Evgenia Kryuchkova 6-0, 6-1. She will face teammate Doerr, who made it to the finals with a win over Utah’s Missy Harris and a straight set defeat of BYU sophomore Megan Price.

Freshman Aubrey Paul advanced to the final of the B draw after beating her Wyoming opponent in straight sets. She fell to Utah’s Andrea Maughan 6-1, 6-0 in the final.

Romina Nedakovic, who lost her first round match, has stormed back in the consolation draw making it to the final four. She defeated opponents from Colorado State and Wyoming and will face CSU’s Caitlin Fluegge in the semifinals Saturday.

Sophomore pair Jones and Price will feature in the doubles final Saturday after two more wins, both against duos from the University of Utah. The Cougar twosome will be joined in the final by Doerr and Nedakovic, who earned an 8-6 win over Utah’s Erin Monson and Andrea Maughan.

Matches begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the BYU Outdoor Tennis Courts. The courts are south of South Field and the entrance is located on the east side. Admission is free and all matches are open to the public. All BYU parking lots are available for public parking all day Saturday.
