LAWRENCE -- The No. 61 BYU women’s tennis team earned its second win in as many matches Friday. The Cougars edged out Kansas 4-3 on the road, handing the Jayhawks their first home loss of the season.

“Things are going well,” BYU coach Craig Manning said. “We’re trying to push the girls to improve their performances and take it to the next level.”

Juniors Elle Carney and Liza Ezhova had the first doubles win of the day on court three. Romina Nedakovic and Megan Price then sealed the doubles point for BYU with their win at the No. 2 position.

Price quickly added to the Cougars’ total with a straight-set win on court five. McCall Jones continued BYU’s success with a win at No. 1. Junior Chie Hayasaka clinched the match for the team in a 7-6, 6-1 victory.

“Everybody’s fighting hard, has good attitudes and are doing everything they can,” Manning said.

Kansas came back to take the three remaining singles matches. Nedakovic and Ezhova both split sets before falling to their respective Jayhawk opponents in tiebreakers.

“When you’re trying to get people out of their comfort zones, they react differently. There have been mixed results,” Manning said.

The Cougars will continue their road trip with a match against No. 73 Oklahoma State Saturday. Play against the Cowgirls begins at 1 p.m.
