WICHITA -- Rebounding from a tough loss to Arkansas Friday, the No. 44 BYU women’s tennis team downed No. 71 Wichita State 6-1. Strong play across the board gave the Cougars their third win of the season and the Shockers their first loss.

BYU (3-3) continued to find a way to win in doubles, sweeping all three matches to earn the first point. Identical 8-6 scorelines on every court gave the squad the upper hand going into singles play.

Wichita State quickly evened the score, earning its only point of the match in a victory on court three. The Cougars responded with straight-set wins by junior Kristina Doerr and freshman McCall Jones at the No. 2 and No. 1 positions, respectively.

Freshman Megan Price secured the win for BYU after overcoming a second-set tiebreak to get the victory. The Cougars’ final two points came from Chie Hayasaka and Elle Carney, who both split sets before eventually clinching their respective matches in tiebreaks.

The team will be back in action in two weeks when it hosts No. 14 Notre Dame Feb. 21 at noon.
