HONOLULU -- The No. 26 ranked BYU women's tennis team fell to 1-1 on the season after a 7-0 defeat by No. 13 Baylor at the University of Hawaii Tennis Complex on Saturday.

"We fought hard and competed really well," said BYU head coach Craig Manning. "I thought the match was closer than what the score showed. Baylor is a really good team and were too good for us today."

Senior Anastasia Surkova was defeated by the Bears' Zuzana Zemenova in a tough three-set contest (4-6, 6-4, 10-2). Baylor proved too much for the remaining Cougars, including Kristina Doerr and Elizaveta Ezhova, who played at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots for BYU, repectively.

In doubles action, Baylor's Zemenova and Lenka Broosova came out with an 8-4 victory over the duo of Surkova and Doerr. The Cougars' final two doubles pairs fell in hard-fought 8-5 sets.

"We got a good effort from everyone," said Manning. "We learned some things and hopefully will be able to get them down better in the next few weeks."

The Cougars will take a week off and return home before hosting Utah State and Arkansas on Jan. 18-19.
