Women’s Tennis Opens With BYU Invitational
PROVO -- Cougar tennis fans will have their first opportunity to watch the women's tennis team in action this Thursday through Saturday at the BYU outdoor tennis courts. The BYU Invitational will host players from Utah, Utah State, Colorado State, Weber State and Boise State universities.
Despite losing departed seniors Lauren Jones and Sofia Holden, the Cougars are expected to have another strong season. Newcomers Elizaveta Ezhova and Elle Carney will have their intercollegiate debut this weekend and join teammates Dolly Chang, Kristina Doerr, Chie Hayasaka and Jocelyn Jensen. Anastasia Surkova, who is ranked No. 59 nationally, and Jennifer Miccoli will not compete.
Play starts on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the BYU outdoor tennis facilities and will continue throughout the day. Admission to the tournament is free.
The BYU outdoor tennis courts are located just south of the Smith Fieldhouse and the entrance is on the east side. Public parking is not available on Thursday or Friday in the BYU Y parking lots until 4 p.m., but all BYU lots are open to the public all day Saturday. In case of inclement weather, play will resume at the indoor tennis courts adjacent to the outdoor facility.
