PROVO, Utah (May 14, 2005) Despite impressive play in doubles, the No. 21 ranked women's tennis team lost 1-4 to No. 14 Baylor in the Second Round of the NCAA Championships, Saturday.

The Cougars enjoyed a 1-0 advantage going into singles play after winning the doubles point. They picked up the point with victories from the number one doubles duo of Anastasia Sourkova and Jenny Miccoli 8-3 and an 8-1 victory from the number three doubles with Olga Boulytcheba and Sofia Holden.

It was a different story in singles where Baylor came right back with a 2-1 lead after straight set wins at the number three and four singles positions. At the number one position, the Cougars Lauren Jones played a solid game but still fell to Baylor's Zuzana Zemenova 3-6, 3-6 for a Baylor 3-1 advantage.

"Baylor was too good today," said BYU head coach Craig Manning. "I think for the first time this year we started a bit slow and tentative in singles and you can't do that to a team like Baylor. We did some good things as well, and I'm very proud of our team."

No. 14 Baylor just needed one more singles win to close out the match and they got that from their number six singles player Zuzana Krchnakova who defeated the Cougars Rebecca Pike 6-4, 6-1.

BYU finishes the 2005 season with an impressive 22-4 record, while Baylor moves to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships in Georgia with an overall record of 24-5.
